Goong Ob Woonsen (Thai Clay Pot Shrimp with Bean Vermicelli)

Goong Ob Woonsen is such a warming dish that can found across the streets of Bangkok.

Ingredients (Serves 2 or more)

  • 10 x King Prawns (16-20 Raw PDTO)
  • 150g Pork Belly (Thinly sliced)
  • 3 x Lungkou Bean Vermicelli 50g (Pre-soaked in warm water)
  • 25g Ginger Root (Sliced)
  • 3 Garlic cloves (Peeled & Smashed)
  • 50g Spring Onions
  • 15g Coriander / Asian Celery
  • 2 x Tspn of Light Soy Sauce
  • 2 x Tspn of Oyster Sauce
  • 2 x Tspn of Shaoxing Rice Wine
  • 1 x Tpsn of Pure Sesame Oil
  • 250ml Water or Chicken Stock
  • 2 x Tablespoon of Vegetable Oil (For frying)
  • 1 x Tpsn of Grinded Black Peppercorns

Directions

  1. Soak the bean vermicelli in a bowl with warm water
  2. In a bowl mix the seasoning sauce : Soy Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Shaoxing Wine, Sesame oil & Black Pepper
  3. Once the vermicelli is soft, drain of excess water and add the noodles to the seasoning sauce and mix well
  4. Heat the claypot add in  the Veg oil, Ginger, Garlic and Pork Belly and saute for 2-3 minutes on a medium heat
  5. Once the Pork is fragrant add in the bowl of seasoned vermicelli
  6. Next add in the King Prawns and stock, mix well and close the lid and cook for 4 minutes on medium heat
  7. Add the Spring Onions and cook for further 2 mins
  8. Add in the Coriander, close the lid and turn off the heat.
  9. Serve after 2 mins
